Welcome to Doves Class
Dove Class (Year 1 and Year 2) is taught by Mrs Weaver on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and by Mrs Houlder on Thursdays. The class is supported by Mrs Kent.
We have a lovely, bright classroom with plenty of space, an inviting reading corner and lots of resources which children can access independently. We also have an area outside of the classroom that can be used for group work. Continuous provision is set up and linked to the terms topic, where the children can enhance their learning through play. Our courtyard is an area where the children can take their learning outside.
In Year 1, children begin to develop their ability to be more independent and engage in their learning in a more structured way, while still having plenty of opportunities for creativity, exploration and adventure. Children in Year 2 are then able to build on these important skills and embed their understanding of key concepts in readiness for Key Stage 2.
Parents, log in to Class Dojo for all our latest class news and updates.
Because we have 2 year groups in each class, we use a 2-year rolling programme of study which means that, over the course of their two years in Dove Class, children will cover all areas of the Year 1 and Year 2 National Curriculum. here is a copy of our 2-year rolling programme, which has recently been redeveloped in order to make better links between subjects and ensure a broad and balanced curriculum. There are still some areas being worked on, so this document is subject to change.
Here is our timetable for the academic year 2022-23: Dove Class Timetable. PE lessons take place on Monday and Tuesday each week.
Remember to bring the following items to school each day:
- water bottle
- reading book and reading record in your book bag
- coat or waterproof jacket if necessary
- Welly boots if raining (these can be kept in school)
More information about the class routines can be found here.
In the Autumn term 2022, our topic is 'London'. We'll be learning about Guy Fawkes in history and the failed Gunpowder plot. In Gegraphy we will be learning about the four countries that make up the UK, comparing London to Cambridge and tracking the route that Guy Fawkes took from where he was imprisoned to where he was executed. Here is our Autumn 2022 Curriculum Map. See below for our history and geography knowledge organisers which underpin our learning in these subjects.
